Subiaco Oval – Pretty Impressive

Submitted by Mark on Sunday, 19 August 2007No Comment

Subiaco Oval - PerthWell, I went to see my first AFL Footie Match yesterday and I have to say I had a pretty good time.

We had great seats and I even managed to get my head around some of the rules.

The game was played at a Stadium called the Subicao Oval I took a picture on my phone so have a click to see a larger (slightly blurry) picture.

The Subiaco Oval, known colloquially as Subi, is the highest capacity sports stadium in Perth and is the home ground for the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Football Club, the two Western Australian teams in the Australian Football League.

I have to say I was pretty impressed with the Subi and it was jam packed with supporters.

I think the capacity for the statium is 43,000 and there wasn’t an empty seat in the house.

Doing a little research on the Subi there are plans to potentially increase the size of the stadium to 60,000 seats using a phased approach. This certainly makes sense. Back in 2005 the West Coast Eagles had 42,000 season ticket holders! Not quite Manchester United numbers but still pretty impressive.

Will I go to watch the eagles play again. Damn right, especially if there is as much free beer available as there was last night….hic!
