Default Sydney: Manly vs North Shore?

    Hi there,

We're moving to Sydney from the UK. Have a job lined up in the CBD.
Wondering where to live. Manly looks great on domain.com.au, and the
ferry looks like it is pretty fast.

Just wondering whether the ferry is reliable? Is it really crowded in
the morning? Others have suggested the lower north shore (b/w North
Sydney & Chatswood) as a good alternative that is close to the CBD.
We're keen to live in Manly, just wondering if there is a catch or
things that might weigh against it?

Any suggestions from people that have lived in the area would be
    greatly appreciated, cheers.

    Regards
    John

You can look up ferries timetable and fares at
    www.sydneyferries.info

    - ferry journey Manly to Circular Quay, City, takes 30 min. and

the Jetcat takes 15 min. The cost may be a turn-off - look for

the cost of a Weekly (or longer) Ticket which gives a discount

    against daily fare costs.

Train fares and timetables at www.cityrail.nsw.gov.au. for
North Sydney and Chatswood -- no train service from Manly, bus, ferry

    or jetcat. Hope this helps.

We too are looking at this area to live in as hubby a 3G manager for
mobile company. From what we can gather, this area is expensive, but
    also very beautiful.

Wait until you get here and check it out for yourself. Other peoples
    opinions are just that; opinions.

Personally, I prefer the newly developed etstates in the southwest with all
the open spaces. But it's no good if you want to live near the beach of
course (I have no interest in the beach anymore).

Manly is nice, but getting to anywhere other then the northern beaches
or the CBD isn't especially easy (road access isn't great). Although
the ferry terminal is right beside Circular Quay railway station, from
which you can get trains to the rest of Sydney.

When you arrive in Sydney, visit it and see what you think.
