Wait until you get there and check it out for yourself. You could ask 100
people in this NG and get 100 diff answers.
Hi, as a Melbourne resident of many years ..... if you're after areas
with "beautiful nature" that aren't too expensive (although, bit tricky
to judge this as everyone's budgets are different!) try Eltham,
Warrandyte, Donvale ... lots of trees, only 30-40 mins drive from the
City, least expensive of the 3 is Eltham. If you're after an area close
to the water, then head to the Bayside suburbs ... you try somewhere
like Hampton or Bentleigh, although keep in mind that Bayside living is
very popular in Melbourne and therefore the cost of real estate is
higher in these suburbs. Depending on how far you consider "not to far"
from the city (as my English hubby used to think sitting on a train for
1.5 hours each way to work was fairly normal!) you could try somewhere
like Mt Eliza, which is much further down the bay/coast line (say 50-60
mins to city) but is hilly with lots of trees etc. If you want suburbia
but without the high price, perhaps somewhere like Blackburn in the
eastern suburbs would suit ..... approx 20 mins drive from the city -
has a lake and lots of park areas, or Wheelers Hill ...... 30-35mins
from city, which has a huge park with lake called Jells Park and lots of
nice streets. All of these areas are close to good schools, shopping,
public transport and freeway access.
Have a good drive around too ..... as with any suburb, there are the
good and not so good streets etc.
If you want to check out some real estate in these areas ..... try the

Good luck and welcome to Melbourne!
