    Hi

Some areas in Melbourne and surrounding in your price range could be
possibly Cheltenham which is about 30 mins by train from the city, close
to an excellent shopping mall and not too far from the beach. Moving
further out you have places such as Chelsea, Chelsea Heights (thats were
I'm heading), Patterson Lakes (prices here have come down a little and
it is set around marinas), Bonbeach, Carrum, Aspendale (not sure on
prices of those 3 they are all close to the beach though) and then there
is Frankston which has good priced property but you have to watch which
particular areas, Frankston Heights and Frankston South are OK, but try
to avoid Frankston North (hope I dont offend anyone). These are all to
the South East of the City.

Going the other way there is a relatively new place called
Caroline Springs which you may be able to find an axcellent
    property in your range.

Hope thats helped a little, maybe someone can help you out with places
in the other directions as I am not familiar with these.

Any advice for properties around the $600k mark? My partner & I will
be heading out in a couple of months in anticipation of moving there
and fancy checking a few areas out.

Also i guess you need to read financial papers regarding the boom in
housing sector. I think it would be sooner to have a bubble burst in
that field, as prices got jackedup recently and even rental prices
    increasing rapidly.

wish you good luck in your hunt
