    Default Perth vs. Sydney

    Hi,
I have lodged my pr visa application and I am currently deciding whether
to move to Perth or Sydney. I'd prefer Perth, but I am working and
planning to work as programmer/analyst (Java). I checked the job
websites about Perth and the result was a little frustrating. So I
became uncertain, since the number of job offers in Syndey is huge.
Had anyone experience in finding a job as programmer/analyst in Perth?
How hard is it getting a job in Perth? Has anyone been/is in a similiar
    situation? What would you recommend?

    Thanks
    Thomas

I think your option should be Melb. or Syndey.
Myself too planing for the move in June, aslready got the visa. Little
confused but finally arrived at decision for NSW come what may.
If you want to share views on this Thomas you are welcome.
    thanks.

I'm Java analyst/Programmer also, and had been considering Sydney/Perth
for several months. In the end I have decided on Perth as I am going for
lifestyle rather than working oppurtunities. One thing to bear in mind
when looking at the job sites is that there are many more people in
Sydney looking for work, so you have to think percentages rather than
    numbers of jobs shown.

If you are any good at what you do, you will find work in either city,
so put that to one side and consider why you want to go to Oz, and what
you want to get out of it.

I understand your concern about the job market but Perth and Sydney are
very different places. I would suggest that you have had the courage to
decide to emigrate so just have a little bit more and go where you
really want to be. You might not get a job paying as much but then you
won't need to. And you will have a much less stessful commute / life
    outside of work.

Thanks for your posting. Well, I think I'm some good in my job ;-)
And I had similiar considerations and it's a good feeling when somebody
    else confirms this.
BTW, how long took your visa processing (skilled independent?) ? Nearly
    a year, didn't it ? Did you consult a migration lawyer ?

    Worzel,
you're right. I was a little frustated about the job postings of
    Perth...
One reason for migrating to OZ is the lifestyle. And the lifestyle in
Perth is quite more relaxed than in Sydney, isn't it? On the other hand,
migrating without the chance of finding a pleasant job would be no good.
So I think I'll head for Perth, try to find my luck there ;-)

My feelings too. If it doesn't work out you can always move on.

Go there and live it for a while, you may just fiind that it's the place
you've been looking for and you feel instantly comfortable. But I would
be wary about making decisions (albeit preliminary ones) without at
least a short visit to each or either place first.

    Best regards,

    Jamie

Perth is a dead one horse town, we made the mistake of coming here,
and cant afford to move on at present. The people are clicky, there is
nothing to do bar sun and beach, great the 1st yr or two, then yawn.
On top of which there is a crappy Labour Govt, Unions to make you cry,
and the monies crap. Go East my lad, go East

Mine is still going through. I am a 'pre-Julyer', which means they are
taking over a friggin year to process (not including the ACS appraisal).
After July they got their act together and it seems 5-6 months is
looking more likely, but I'm not too sure. I selfishly stick my fingers
in my ears when I read about post-Julyers getting medical requests after
a couple of weeks. (No offense to the post-Julyers - Good luck to us
all I say - I just applied at the wrong time)
