We've been in Melbourne for 4 years and are moving on to Perth
hopefully next year when the house has been sold. Property here in
Melbourne is stagnating though (it's actually dipped in Sydney
slightly) - it's definitely a buyers market right now. Property
prices have been going up in Australia in all cities as I understand
it. We have looked at Perth and certainly in the areas we want to
live (riverside, central), you're talking big dollars.

We're hoping that the Commonwealth Games in March 2006 here in
Melbourne will inject some life back into the property market here.
Interest rates in Australia as you may or may not know have been put
on hold, most likely until the end of the year at, I think, 5.5%.

I guess I'm saying, don't let the property prices in Melbourne be your
sole reason for moving to Perth. Every city here has its good points
and bad points. Many argue that once out in the suburbs, one city is
very much like another - the 'character' is in what goes on in the
very centre of town. I don't think it's quite that black and white
but on balance, I wouldn't disagree.

Others have posted up excellent links (aussiemove is very good) - do
your research - read up as much as you can and then, if at all
possible, spend some time in each city. Melbourne for us is getting
too much of a rat race. Perth is much more of a sleepy city (W.A. =
Wait Awhile). It's not for everyone.

    Good luck!

    Hi Paul

As others have said its abroad question, but I have lived here for 3
years and can recomend these suburbs which I have lived in.

Mount Lawley - young, happening crowd, interesting reasonable priced
housing, great park (Hyde) good nightlife, relaxed atmosphere - but
    definately not sleepy-old-Perth

Nedlands - Classic WA neighbourhood, amazing housing but very
expensive, right on the river and next to Kings Park - if you can
    afford it move here!!

East Fremantle - great comunity atmosphere, great cute housing,
expensive but worth it, close to River and feels out of Perth...

Anyway, I also lived in Morley and Mosman Park which I would not
    reccomend.

    Hope this helps a bit.

    Good
    Luck,

    Simon
