We are going to Brisbane to have a look around at areas and propertie
in March. We would like to narrow down a few areas to look at when w
get there. Can any one give us some suggestions please. we are lookin
for somewhere possibly in between Brisbane and The Gold Coast wher
property is reasonable, we would like a modern property. We wan
somewhere quite rural but with bars, restaurants,shops close by, bu
are not too bothered about being close to the sea. My husband is a
electrian and I am an admin assistant, we dont want to be too far awa
from work either. We saw some nice properties in Kooralbyn Valley doe
anyone know how far it is from Brisbane? Any help you can give would b

Same criteria that we wanted!
I don't know about Kooralbyn Valley but it looks very far out from
Brisbane on www.whereis.com
We live almost exactly half way between Brisbane and the Gold Coast at
Teneh Merah. Can get to the coast in 20 - 30 mins.
We looked at Shailer Park, Cornubia and Daisy Hill too. Avoid Woodridge.

Shailer Park, Cornubia & Daisy Hill are good areas. $33.60/week return to
the city by bus and half way to the gold coast from brissy.

Avoid all of the Logan Suburbs on the woodrige / Logan side of the pacific
motorway. History of flooding and Loganlea has the higest crime stats for
the entire area.

Kooralbyn is in Beaudesert - not Brisbane, not the Gold Coast - and it's not
a comfortable commute from Kooralbyn to either.

Likewise Shailer Park, Cornubia & Daisy Hill are all in Logan. Not Brisbane,
not the Gold Coast. They are within commuting distance of Brisbane - but
long term residents and native born Australians would generally not choose
to live there and commute.

If you're going to work in Brisbane - live within the city boundaries.
transport will be better; real estate resale values higher and facilities
superior. Same is true of the Gold Coast. If that's where you're going to be
working - live there.

Commuting long distances (in excess of 30 minutes each way, each day is a
long commute in Australian terms) is no fun. You can put the time to so much
better use.

My advice would be to not buy property until you've been in the country at
least 6 months. The life style in Australia is very different from the UK or
Ireland. Pubs are not big! Social life focuses on the family and the home;
near which you have neighbours many of whom will quickly become friends. You
can spend many more hours outdoors comfortably - walking, socialising,
swimming, barbecuing. The young and single get into the club scene. The
disgruntled and alcoholic get into the pub scene. Most others are elsewhere!

Cocurred with A Mate. We have moved here for 18 months now and only
about to be able to narrow down the area we want to live in. The work
place and school will largely determine where one stays I suppose.

As in everywhere in the world, the nearer to the city, the more
expensive property becomes. Go to www.realestate.com.au to have a feel
of the prices/rentals. It also gives the distance to the city. But
why live near the city if you dont work there??

Other than the suburbs mentioned, you can also try Sunnybank area if
you like Chinese food or Chinatown type of suburb LOL, or Acacia Ridge
and Algester for more established area. But pubs are only a handful in
the suburbs. My advice would be to spend some time here and have a
feel of the area.

you will really have to get here and then decide,agood website is
ourbrisbane.com. it is packed full of useful info house prices rentals
schools ,suburbs etc,well worth a look. Eight mile plains wishart mt
gravatt are a few worth a look and would be a good base to start off
at,not too far from anything basically. hope this helps.
