On January 1st this year the temperature here in Sydney reached 45C in
the shade. We coped with just fans. Then a few weeks ago we got up to
find light ice on the Balcony. I gather in the 6 months we've been
here we've experienced close on the hottest recorded temperature and
the coolest month for many years. At the moment are thinking of
installing reverse cycle Air Con not just for the cooling properties
but for its heating properties too. Melbourne I believe is a bit
cooler than Sydney.
From what I've experienced I wouldn't be concerned about the temperature
but more which city is right for you.

How can you say Melbourne is boring? There is always something happening
here! Personally I prefer living in Melbourne and it is Sydney I find
boring but that is just me :P Plus I couldn't afford to buy a house
anywhere near the city unlike here which is a big plus for me as renting
is getting tiresome!

Yeah, Melbourne is an amazing city. Lots going on, big cafe/bar scene,
fantastic restauants, perhaps the most 'cultured' city in Oz...
Weather in Sydney is generally warmer and perhaps a bit more consistent,
although in Summer temperatures in Melbourne can quite often exceed
those in Sydney. It's a bit more up and down in Melbourne I guess.
We lived in Melbourne for a year and absolutely loved it - really great
place. You won't go too far wrong choosing to live there. When we come
back over however, we're heading to Sydney. Mainly as there's more
possibilities for diving and also it's another area of Australia for us
to explore.
Enjoy, whatever you decide...

Melbourne's certainly not boring. There's plenty to do here but it is a
more relaxed European style city. Sydney is more like an American city.
It's big, brash, crowded and fast. Melbourne is slower and more relaxed.
It all depends what you want-although personally I think that if you
want an American lifestyle, go to America. The best part of Australia is
not the cities-it's the coast, the bush and the relaxed life. Most of us
live in the cities coz we have to earn a crust. Otherwise we'd all by a
house on the beach!
