Depends what you like weather wise, culture wise etc...what are you going to
study
By the time you get to the stage of 'going to study',
you have an idea of what you are going to study and at which institution,
so you are probably going to go to the city that contains that institution
rather than choosing the school after you choose the city
I'm hangin out to go to Peru

Yes, Melbourne has horrible weather but lots of culture. Brisbane has no
culture but good weather.
Seriously tho, the Universities in Melbourne are better. If you want to
study and get a good degree Melbourne is better. Cost of living is about
the same in Brisbane and Melbourne.
I should declare my interest-I live in Melbourne. Oh and Melbourne has
more migrants. There is a south American community here if that is of
interest to you. Melbourne is certainly much more multicultural.
Good luck choosing.

I was in exactly the same position about 18 months ago.... couldn't
decide between melbourne and brisbane. Family and lots of friends in
melbourne, weather and a partner who wanted to go to brisbane.....
Eventually I ended up in Brisbane for this first year, and now I'm off
down the Gold Coast, and couldn't be happier.
I think it should really come down to where you want to study, and which
university is the best for that course.
After a lot of consideration I picked a private uni on the Gold Coast -
purely because it's smaller and I get my two degrees finished faster.
Had offers from both the Uni of Queensland, and the Uni of Melbourne and
it really just came down to personal choice of lifestyle - Queensland
fitted the bill.
