You need approval from the federal government to purchase property in
Australia if you are not a citizen, or do not hold a visa such as a
spouse visa. You will not be able to use this as "leverage" I don't
think, but I suppose it depends on what Visa you apply for. It might
help in a business type visa, but it won't be considered at all in a
skilled visa.
