    Default melbourne: cost of living

Hello. I know there are some similar posts, but a little bit old.
I have been offered a position in Melbourne, and I am in the process
of evaluating if moving to Australia from Italy.
I have checked a few web sites but I have not really found what i was
    looking for.

So, how much is renting a 2 bedrooms apt?
How much in electricity? Gas? telephone? Food?
Do people go by car, scooter, public transportation?

Where is THE place to live in Melbourne, and which parts are to run
    away from?
The company is located in South Melbourne.

How long does it take to a Melbournese (?!?) to get to work?

    thanks for any advice

    ciao

    roberto

Hi Roberto, The cost of living is higher in Italy.
Rents vary according to suburbs. Here is a useful link.
    www.realestate.com.au
The cost of utilities depends very much on usage. Many people here use
    cellphones - similar to Italy.
Too many people drive. Petrol/gas is about $1.20+ per litre.
Many use public transport. Less scooters than motor bikes.
South Melbourne is a very popular area to live and work assuming you like
    cosmopolitan/busy.
THE place depends on your wants. Arts? Restaurants? Cafes? Large areas
The time it takes a Melburnian to commute depends on the distance they live
from their workplace. When I lived in Melbourne it took me 6 minutes, others
    more than an hour.
    Are you from Rome?
There are many post war Italian immigrants living in Melbourne. My daughter
is a teacher of Italian. She spent some time in school in Italy.
    Ciao
    Meryl
