Default Searching job in Australia while staying in India

    Hi friends,

After a long wait of 1.5 years we got a visa grant letter(VE175) last
    week.

Feeling very happy. But the actual harwork starts now.

We are planning to do our visa validation trip in the month of
    december.

(visa validation trip-Go to Australia, stay for 2 to three days and come
back.we get visa validation done in airport itself).

And after comming back from australia to India, me and my husband are
planning to search for a job in Australia through internet(You know
staying in Australia while looking for a job will be expensive-No
    job,No earnings).

Do we really get calls for interviews????????
Can any one who has experienced the same situation please share your
    experiences in this regard.

has any one done the same thing is is succesfull in doing it????Please
    share your experiences.

    Waiting for your valuable suggestions........

    thanks in advance,

    sunpriya

I searched for 6 months for a job while I was outside Australia. I
didn't receive a single response to any of the thousands (yes
thousands) of applications and emails that I sent. But after arriving
in Australia, I had a minimum of 10 interviews in a week and had
decided on which position to accept within 6 weeks of my arrival.

Every persons story is unique, and I am sure you will hear of people
who had no problem at all securing employment while outside Australia.
In my experience however, employers want to know you are in the area,
they want to meet you face to face, and spend some time getting to know
you. I did a total of 3 separate interviews with the firm I now work at
and took a series of personality and aptitude exams. That would never
have been possible if I weren't able to walk into their office.

    Best of luck!!

What you do on your validation trip depends on how long you are here.

Applying for Medicare or a Tax File Number will require a stay of at least 2 weeks as there are documents that will have to be mailed to you. Most activity with a government agency will require an address. Getting a drivers license will require your home address.

I found that getting a job without a permanent address was difficult, but certainly not impossible. While it will be possible to register with employment agencies and to attend job interviews, the process of actually getting hired seems to be very lengthy here. From my first interview to my start date at my job was over six weeks time!!

I think the primary task for a validation visit should be to learn how to get around and to visit and experience the various areas that you think you would like to settle in. I arrived with a list of towns that, from my research, I thought I would settle into quite well. Once I visited most of them, I discovered I would have been miserable if I had committed to them sight unseen. Take the time to go to places you think you want to live, spend a day or better yet a few days and get the feeling of the town.

Best of luck on your new adventure

    Cheers

    Hi Guys,

I am an april 2008 applicaNT SUBCLASS 176 NSW SS . I got my Visa on OCT 2010. A word of Advice to every one. every stage from passing your IELTS,MEDICALS,VISA GRANT is a big hurdle to cross and most importantly getting a JOB once you land in Australia. ALL the COMPanies over here, especially the Big recruiters require Ausi Experience, knowing very well that you have just arrived in Australia - This will be their Excuse. Also You need to tailor your resume according to ausi standards. Maximum 2 pages. anything over 4 pages goes to the bin. Thirdly once you land here you should be mentally prepared to take up any job for an initial surival and go from there. I have known DOctors, chartered accountants etc who have taken up jobs as low as a taxi driver over here. so my advice is Dream big, be positive but dont assume that any one will just call an offer you a job over here.... Its going to be tough and if you are ready to rough it out auomaticaly everything will come in place. The First thing to do on landing in OZ is to get your Medicare card, tax file number, baNK account, Centerlinlk assistance and DRIVING LICENSE. PLEASE be reminded to carry your original driving license from your origin country and ensure that all the contents in the driving license like your full name, DOB, Father name etc match with your passport else that will be another big procedure for ASIAN's.

So Guys i am not here to freighten you, but this is practicaly the fact which most of you are likely to face on Landing in OZ. Be positive and be ready to face anything and you will reach your goal gradualy. all the Best to every one

Hi glen64 and thank you for your frank views

Although some folks may experience this, i'd like to stress that much of this can be dependent on where you are and what it is your looking to do. There are many industries where there are severe skills shortages (take the mining industry in Perth for example). There are other industries in other states which may be over subscribed.

My advice for all is to do your research. Make contact with recruiters Before you arrive to Suss out the marketplace. Join networking groups such as the GDU group on LinkedIn.

Technology and the Internet as a whole makes life that little bit easier so don't forget to take advantage of it!

    Dear Mark

As you told about shortage of skill in mining industry of Perth. Would you be kind enough to tell from where did you get those information because if it is from any particular source then may be it could also help me. I am by profession an accountant and just like everyone else although I am also willing to take up odd jobs just for survival but it would be wise to land in city which shortage of accountants so that one could have better chances of getting relevant job in due time.

By the way which GDU group you were tell about? I searched on LinkedIn but could not find any such group
