Thankx Jacob for ur reply,i will correct it. Now for CAT6, if u see, it
say about MODL applicants and the 2nd part of CAT6 deals with MODL and
then SOL so in any case the priority first is for MODL and then
SOL(others). We understand the emotions of people waiting for so long
and we all want ourselves to get our application processed asap but
cant help. I myself fall under the same situation, i have to wait and
see for my case as im am not on CSL/MODL so last but not least.6(ii) or
7, if 6(ii) then i am happy that i have been promoted 1 step further and
if 7. then its there where i am, to sum
    up,...............waiting..............

    Regards.

Nirmal, you have stated that as on 9th Decemebr 2009 cat 5 applicants
are under process. Do you mean that the applicants who have lodged the
applications on 9th Dec 2009 or did you mean that a cat 5 applicant was
issued the visa on 9th Decemebr 2009. Please clarify?????

    Cheers

    Jacob

Here is something from another site that sounds very depressing. This
is what Mr. Karl Konrad from Australian Immigration Law Services has to
    say.

    11th December 2009

    Dear Students

Welcome to the latest edition of IMMIGRATION NEWS and to the new
subscribers. This free service is brought to you by Australian
Immigration Law Services. You can subscribe by using the link below or
    by visiting our web site.

DIAC manoeuvres to shake up the GSM system

In consultation with key state and territory representatives DIAC has
unveiled its proposed changes to the general skilled migration program.
These changes will have a dramatic impact upon those international
students who are planning to lodge EGSM applications when they finish
their 2 years of study next year.

IMMIGRATION NEWS has obtained a copy of the DIAC paper prepeared to
discuss these future changes. You can find this paper attached as a PDF
    file. An extract from the paper reads;

    “A NEW SKILLED MIGRATION MODEL

Targets applicants (including in the Independent category) with skills
of high economic value and in the numbers required by the labour
    market;

Selects skilled migrants on the basis of those who score the highest
    rather than those who simply meet the prescribed pass mark;

Changes the relationship between the lodgment of an application and the
legal obligation to grant a visa, thereby eliminating long and costly
    visa application pipelines;

Is agile and responsive to decisions to increase or decrease the size
of the permanent migration program; and

Complements the `demand-driven’ employer sponsored visa
    categories.”

DIAC plans to cut students from the waiting lists

Currently there are 137,500 applicants waiting to be processed for GSM
visas alone. This is more than double the entire current 65,300 places
allocated to international students. In addition to this DIAC is
receiving about 10,000 applications a month so by the end of the
financial year there approximately another 60,000 will be joining the
current backlog before the end of this financial year next ending June
    2010.

One of the most concerning aspects of DIAC’s plans above is that
they intend to cut students from the waiting lists to
“eliminating long and costly visa application pipelines”.

This will mean that there will no longer be any certainty of gaining
your visa just because you lodged your application. There is also the
possibility DIAC may retrospectively apply these changes to those
students already waiting for their residency on bridging visas.

IMMIGRATION NEWS will provide more information on these proposed
changes as the information comes to light.

    Rahul,

Thanks for the information. Diac's intention to act against the
student visas was in the pipe line for quite some time, therefore it is
not at all shocking as their intention to do so is to get experienced
    hands rather that freshers.

Further, if this is implemented then it will only speed the non -
student applications i.e. in short the other visas like yours and mine
shall get procesed faster thereby leaving very few applicants in the
    pipeline.

    Cheers

    Jacob

What worries me also is this talk about retrospective changes for
applicants who have already applied. What would stop them from getting
    something that affects us.

    HEy Kumari,
This has been very frustrated time for us. Well according to my
knowledge, very few Category 5 applicants are getting the visas. I have
one friend who told me that he is in the category 5 but when he mailed
DIAC regarding the status of his file DIAC replied with standard mail
of 23 Sept changes. Very few High Risk applicants of cat 5 are getting
the visas. So u can guess what will happen to category 6.
No hope until some official announcement from DIAC...
