We've been in Perth for 2 and a half years and are coming home, back to the UK. Apart from missing our family back home, we got fed up with the exorbitant cost of living here (I spend twice as much on groceries than I used to, and electricity is going through the roof), the fee culture, the summer heat (43 last weekend and 35 today), the infernal flies, boy racers, bad drivers, crime, the way we have to keep chasing people up for replies to correspondence, the shoddiness of some goods, (nothing lasts for long) and the proliferation of police hiding in bushes with their multinovas. It really isn't all it's cracked up to be and I would advise anyone coming out to try it before they burn their boats.
The good things are the lovely suburbs and gorgeous houses, Perth being a beautiful city, the lack of congestion, the affordability of eating out (mostly you can bring your own wine), and the price of petrol. But not enough to keep us here!
Bear in mind too that British people now have to wait four years for citizenship instead of two - so that we can integrate!! Apparently we need the extra time so that we can 'get a job, make some mates and go down the pub'. How patronising. That's the ex minister for immigration when he passed the new rules. We won't be hanging about.
As soon as we can sell up and get rid of our rental property we're outa here.
Anyone want a 5 bedroom house with a pool, in the Swan Valley, 45 minutes drive from the City Centre?
Thanks for the reality check! I've got no family in the UK (tho I live here and I'm used much hotter temps) so I hope I'll be OK. Still now sure about WA or Qld though.
