Is work experience assessment by EA must for claiming points? We launched our CDR assessment application to Engineers Australia(EA) in December, but we did not opt for the additional services.
At that time, we were under the impression that work experience assessment by EA is optional, as we thought that DIAC will assess the experience too so no pressing need to be redundant. But now, after reading the info on immi.gov and EA website again, it seems that if we want to claim points for work experience, then we need to get the experience assessed by EA first. Is this correct? Can we not claim, and expect to be awarded those points unless EA has assessed our experience? Or will it make the visa process more complicated or lengthy if the experience assessment is only done by DIAC not EA too.
We do need to claim the 15 marks for 8 years experience( infact, hubby has 12 yrs experience) as without those 15 points, we are not getting the required 65 points.
Can anyone please guide me in this matter. Is work experience assessment by Engineers Australia must if we want to claim points for work experience on our visa? Is it highly recommended or just a personal preference?

Re: Is work experience assessment by EA must for claiming points? yes, when i applied for General Skilled Migrant as an Engineer, my skills and experience were assessed by EA. i am a teacher with an engg license so i had to show evidence that i have engg skills, like projects, consultancies. i also indicated in the application form that my skills is being assessed yet by EA.

Re: Is work experience assessment by EA must for claiming points? Thanks for the reply.
We have, ofcourse sent my husband's work experience information for skill assessment as engineer.
Did you apply to EA after July 2011? Did you opt for the Optional service by EA on payment of 150 AUD i.e. Work Experience assessment for 20 points??

Re: Is work experience assessment by EA must for claiming points? Hi Joojay,
After you're thread I have done some research on the matter because I need the points for experience too.
This is a copy from the website immi.gov.au
"Your relevant Assessing Authority which undertook your skills assessment may also provide an opinion on your skilled employment experience. The department will consider the Assessing Authority’s opinion when awarding points."
So my opinion is that it is not necessary to have it but if there could be any doubt I should do it.
In my case I have got signed documents from current and former employers, the documents mention what my function and key responsibilities are.
