Discuss Opinions and advise needed - Planning to get married after Visa Grant posted within the Australian Visas and Immigration Advice forum at Getting Down Under

HI Everyone,

I was granted a skilled (independent) migrant visa. Before my first entry to Australia, my boyfriend and I are planning to get married. It is our intention to live together in Oz after I gain permanent residency. By that time, ill be able to sponsor him as a Partner. My questions would be:

1. Does getting married after visa grant have an effect on such visa? Do visas get cancelled after marriage and before the first entry?
2. Can I still use my maiden name after marriage?
3. Do i have to notify the department for the change in status? What are the things that i must do?

Opinions,Advise would be appreciated.

If you were granted skilled independent visa, than you already have permanent residence. Have you not been living in Australia? Do you suspect that your PR visa might be expired?

i have not made my first entry in Australia. The skilled migrant visa granted to me was an offshore application. I am still in my home country. I believe permanent residency will be gained after staying for 2 years in Oz,

Which visa do you have?
What was your initial entry deadline on the visa?
Permanent Residence, you get when you get a skilled visa(and validate it by entering in Australia). Citizenship, you apply after living in OZ for a certain period of time as a PR.

I strongly advise you to seek some professional advice for the actual questions that you have.
