Default Working holiday to partner visa, advice please!

    Hi there

My partner is visiting from Canada on a Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417). We are considering the possibilities of eventually applying for a partner visa, but I am unsure if an onshore or off shore application would be better.

I was on a 3.5 year bridging visa wait for my residency and would not want my partner to go through anything similar.

Anyone here from Canada applied for a partner visa? How long was your wait onshore/offshore?

Onshore partner visa applications seem to take 10 to 12 months at the moment. Offshore processing time varies from country to country. Unless you are getting married and/or have very strong relationship evidence, your partner might be better off to apply for a prospective marriage visa , which is an offshore visa.

Thanks so much for your response Nick. The estimated times on the immi website were 5 months for off shore and 6 for on shore, low risk, so its more like double in reality.

I had a friend whose partner was in Australia when her offshore application got approved. And it got a tad complicated though I cannot remember what they had to do. Have you heard of any examples like that?
