Although splitting the processing across two processing centres should ultimately reduce the amount of time it takes to process Australian Visas, applicants should be mindful that applications sent to Adelaide which are now processed at the Brisbane offices are in transit to the new processing centre.

To discuss the current timeline, please feel free to post in our Australian Visa Timeline Forum or the thread for this current updated posted here.

This will take some time to complete and allocation to case officers may be delayed however your patience is appreciated while this is being undertaken. Processing information is now available; it will be included in this email below.

Applicants are encouraged to provide their documents for these subclasses electronically by attaching them to their evisa application however if you experience difficulties with this method, you may email your scanned documents to the following address: brisbane.gsm.documents@immi.gov.au (Please include your name, date of birth and TRN number in the subject heading of your email to assist us in identifying which application your documents need to be matched to).

Any paper documents received in Adelaide for these applications will be couriered to Brisbane for processing. Please do not also send paper copies of any documents forwarded electronically. These are not required unless they are requested by your case officer.

Please note that dedicated phone and email enquiry systems are still in the process of being established and we will advise as soon as these facilities are available.

Prior to the introduction of these changes there was a significant increase in the volume of applications received by the department.

The surge in applications resulted in delays in getting all of these applications receipted and acknowledged.

All applications lodged prior to 1 September 2007 have now been processed and receipted. While every effort is being made to acknowledge these applications as quickly as possible there will be
a delay before a full acknowledgement is made.

As of 1st January 2008 the ASPC Admin Section is processing applications as follows:

Onshore Applications: receipting and acknowledging applications received on 17 December 2007.

Offshore Applications received after 1 September 2007: receipting and acknowledging applications received on 17 December 2007.

Offshore Applications received prior to 1 September 2007:

All applications with a valid payment have now been receipted. The ASPC is acknowledging applications received on 1 August 2007.

Please note that any delay in acknowledging an application does not affect the date on which a valid application is recorded as having been received and does not delay processing of the application.

Once an application has been acknowledged it will be allocated to a case officer for further assessment as soon as possible, however, the ASPC receives a large number of applications and you will not be contacted immediately.

Delays in receipting applications

The Department has implemented major reforms to the General Skilled Migration (GSM) programme on 1 September 2007 to further improve the effectiveness of the skilled migration programme.

Prior to the implementation of these changes there has been a significant increase in the volume of applications received by the ASPC ahead of the changes.

The surge in applications in recent months has resulted in delays in getting all of these applications receipted and acknowledged. Every effort is being made to clear these applications as quickly as possible however; it may take up to 12 weeks before a full acknowledgement is received.

Providing evidence of commencing health, character and IELTS requirements

Applicants requested to provide health, character, or IELTS testing results to support their application do not need to provide copies of receipts unless specifically asked to do so; however, you do need to advise this office:
1. The examination dates for medical checks;
2. The police clearances applied for and the date the application was made;
3. The details of any IELTS test/s booked including test dates and the name and location of the test centre.

Provided that you do this before the due date in any request letter from the department you do not need to request an extension of time if you are waiting to receive police clearances or IELTS results.
